Victory!
For Immediate Release
April 9, 2000
Your Mom began the 2000 season with a victory over the Union Board. It took a nine-run sixth inning effort to put the game out of reach.
This was the debut for a few of Your Mom's players. Lisa Holthaus led all rookies with three hits, all singles, one run scored, and one run batted in. Elizabeth Fraser contributed two runs and two hits, while Lee Hardee had a double and run scored.
The game started out with a three-up, three down top half of the first for the visiting Union Board. Your Mom then showed strength with four runs on four hits, including a homerun by senior Rob Saldin.
The Union Board responded with five runs in the second inning, but seniors Austin Rice-Stitt and Kam McGillicuddy had back to back homeruns in the bottom of the second to spark a six run rally.
Your Mom's bats then went relatively quiet until the sixth inning. Mark Medendorp led off the inning with a solo homerun, and Terry Dolch added a three-run shot to keep the rally going strong. Rice-Stitt and McGillicuddy both had doubles and Medendorp hit a two run shot to finish out the scoring for the inning. Your Mom's defense did allow two runs in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough to overcome the nine-run rally. Your Mom won the game by a score of 22-15.
Your Mom (1-0) cannot rest long, however, as they have a game again tomorrow at 4:30. The scouting report indicates that Your Mom will be facing a weak team, but no team can ever be taken lightly. We look for Kurt Hirsekorn to return to the hitting form he had last season, as well as another strong effort from the rest of the team.
